Sugar Plants in Austria

Today, AGRANA Zucker GmbH produces in the two Austrian sugar plants based in Tulln and Leopoldsdorf.

Tulln sugar refinery

The Tulln plant also houses the management for the sugar division of AGRANA Zucker GmbH. The sugar plant was founded in 1937. An overview of the daily output shows the constant development into a super plant on European peak level. The same applies to the Leopoldsdorf plant.

In Tulln there is the central sugar magazine where all “Wiener Zucker” brand kinds of sugar available in Austria are produced, packaged, stored fully automatically in a high storage with a storage capacity of approximately 10,000 pallet spaces (corresponding to about 8,000 tons of sugar) and delivered.

Since 1994, a chromatography (molasses sugar extraction plant) has been in operation in the Tulln plant. In 2002, the plant was re-equipped so that enriched betaine can be won in addition to the sugar present in the molasses . Betaine is used for pet feed, diet foods, technical and pharmaceutical products as well as for the cosmetics and fermentation industries.

From Leopoldsdorf, sugar is mainly delivered to the further processing industry.
